Eight students and their teachers were left stranded in the air after the cable car they were riding malfunctioned. A rescue operation was launched to save the eight children and their teachers from the cable car hanging about 274 meters above the ground in the Pashto village of Battagram Allai, Pakistan.

However, the rescue teams were facing challenges due to the height and the deep gorge.
The children were using the cable car to cross the valley to get to school when a cable snapped at a height of up to 1,200 feet in the middle of their journey in a remote and mountainous part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The accident occurred around 8:30 am local time, with locals using mosque loudspeakers to alert neighborhood authorities throughout the valley.
A surveillance helicopter first arrived at the cable car site, before a larger helicopter arrived to ensure there was enough space to transport all those being rescued, said the district’s deputy commissioner, Tanveer Ur Rehman.
Pakistan’s interim Prime Minister, Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, ordered all “derelict and non-compliant cable cars” to be shut down immediately, according to a statement from his office.
